Garrett R. Garcia, graduated from Oakland University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Anthropology. While a student in the Honors College he worked for the Office of Equity and later the Center for Multicultural Initiatives. He was a research assistant to Dr. Gloria Aquino Sosa and aided in her research on the educational attainment of underrepresented populations in Higher Education. He went on to obtain his doctorate in law from Ave Maria School of Law in 2009. For two years he clerked in the Public Integrity and Corruption Unit of the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. He then was sworn in as an attorney by Judge Wade McCree at Frank Murphy Hall of Justice. He originally had a contract position at the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office handling the Felony docket before one of the Judges in Circuit Court. Since 2011 he has been in private practice. During that time he has worked closely with Centro Multicultrural La Familia, a Pontiac based non-profit that provides a wide range to services to the Spanish speaking population in Oakland County.  He worked with a task force of Dreamers, Michigan United and the ACLU on issues related to immigrants’ rights and tuition rates for DACA recipients at Michigan Community Colleges. In addition to his private practice he teaches Ethics and Introduction to Law in the Paralegal Certificate Program at Oakland University.
